Types of Au Pairs & Your Pay

This is your opportunity to have the adventure of a lifetime, make new friends from around the world, live with an Australian family, care for children, develop your experience and explore the wonders of Australia!  

Live for a minimum of 6 months providing up to 40 hours of childcare per week and receive a weekly stipend, food and accommodation in return! As part of your role, you’ll get a minimum of 2 days off plus plenty of opportunity to travel during or after your placement to see the many wonders that Australia has to offer. Although your typical day, job activities and role will be similar, we do have different types of Au pairs depending on your skills and experience.

Your Pay

Get all the facts on what you can expect to earn whilst being an Au Pair in Australia.

Being an AIFS Au Pair in Australia, you will get paid a weekly stipend from your host family which will be paid directly into your new Australian bank account. Don't forget that your accommodation and food is provided for by the family and the best part is that it's not taxed! So you get to keep every penny you earn! Depending on the hours you work and your skills and experience, are you can expect to be paid the following:

Platinum

To qualify as an AIFS Platinum Au Pair you need to meet one of the following criteria:

  • 2 years full time work experience in an childcare or educational setting
  • Worked as an au pair for one year
  • Have a childcare qualification

To qualify as an AIFS Plus Au Pair you need to meet one of the following criteria:

  • 200 hours childcare experience
  • Minimum 100 hours working with under 3 years

To qualify as an AIFS Classic Au Pair you need to meet one of the following criteria:

  • 200 hours childcare experience with any age group

Amounts are in Australian Dollars

If you are completing a 9 month programme, you will receive a $300 completion bonus and two weeks paid leave.
