Difference between Au Pair’s and Nannies

As an Au Pair you’ll live for a minimum of 6 months providing up to 30 hours of childcare per week and receive weekly pocket money, food and accommodation plus plenty of time to explore! All AIFS Au Pairs will need to meet program requirements, however depending on your skills and experience will depend on what type of Au Pair you are. regardless of what type of Au Pair you, you still have a choice in what ages you want to work with and they type of host family you want to be placed with. You can expect your roles and day to day activities to be similar however they will differ slightly depending on the type of Au Pair you are and the age of the children.

Bro Pair aka Male Au Pairs

Male Au Pairs aka “bro pairs” or mannies have become increasingly popular in recent years.  Whilst typically the stereotype of being an Au Pair is a female a role, there has been an increasing demand for a Bro Pair in recent years. There are many reasons why an Australian host family might want to host a bro pair.  Some host families who have all boys actually find that male Au Pairs are better suited to their family’s needs. This is because the bro pair can relate to the host children boy, play sorts with them and be an older brother and role model to them.  We are an inclusive organisation and invite anyone who loves working with children, meets the program and wants to travel to Australia to apply to the program!

During your time to yourself, you can do whatever you like, whether its chilling at the beach, meeting friends for coffee - its totally up to you!  If you are worried about finding friends, don't be! From the day you arrive you will be joining other Au Pairs for your Arrival Orientation. Most Au pairs create a WhatApp group with other Au Pairs at their orientation in addition to joining groups in their own area.  AIFS Au Pair in Australia also has social coordinators (who are current Au Pairs) that organise regular meet ups with other Au Pairs that are in your area.
